SCRIPTURE OF THE DAY
Turn away from what is bad, and do what is good; Seek to find peace, and pursue it. Psalms 34:14.
All should seek after peace and pursue it, and not strive with others if they can avoid it. In fact, doing so may win others over with respect to being peaceful with you. Isaac put this into practice in dealing with herdsmen of Gerar, “And the servants of Isaac went on digging in the torrent valley and so they found there a well of fresh water. 20 And the shepherds of Gerar fell to quarreling with the shepherds of Isaac, saying: “The water is ours!” Hence he called the name of the well Esek, because they had contended with him. 21 And they went digging another well, and they fell to quarreling over it also. Hence he called its name Sitnah.” (Genesis 26:19 to 21), but Isaac did not fight with these bullies. He moved further away and dug another well that the bullies did not quarrel with him over with and this event was recorded at Genesis 26:22, “Later he moved away from there and dug another well, but they did not quarrel over it. Hence he called its name Re·ho?both and said: “It is because now Jehovah has given us ample room and has made us fruitful in the earth.”
His handling the matter is a peaceful way later proved good for Isaac as he later concluded a covenant with the bullies after Almighty God (YHWH) appeared to him and blessed him as recorded at Genesis 26:24 to 29, “And Jehovah proceeded to appear to him during that night and to say: “I am the God of Abraham your father. Do not be afraid, because I am with you, and I will bless you and multiply your seed on account of Abraham my servant.” 25 Accordingly he built an altar there and called on the name of Jehovah and pitched his tent there, and the servants of Isaac went excavating a well there. 26 Later on A·bime·lech came to him from Gerar with A·huzzath his confidential friend and Phi?col the chief of his army. 27 At this Isaac said to them: “Why have YOU come to me, seeing that YOU yourselves hated me and so sent me away from YOUR neighborhood?” 28 To this they said: “We have unmistakably seen that Jehovah has proved to be with you. Hence we said, ‘Let, please, an oath of obligation occur between us, between us and you, and let us conclude a covenant with you, 29 that you will do nothing bad toward us just as we have not touched you and just as we have done only good toward you in that we sent you away in peace. You now are the blessed of Jehovah”’. So Isaac’s striving for peace proved fruitful for him, and in accordance with striving for peace won Almighty God’s (YHWH’s) approval.

SCRIPTURE OF THE DAY [for Tuesday]
For our wrestling is not against flesh and blood, but against the principalities, against the powers, against the world–rulers of this darkness, against the spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. Ephesians 6:12 [American Standard Version; ASV]
Some years after the Christians in Ephesus destroyed their books on magic, the apostle Paul wrote them: the above scripture. The demons had not given up. They were still trying to gain an advantage. So, what else did those Christians need to do? “Above all things,” said Paul, “and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace; 16 withal taking up the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the evil one. 17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:.” (Ephesians 6:15 – 17 [ASV1]) The stronger our shield of faith, the greater our resistance to wicked spirit forces will be. As recorded at —Matthew 17:20. We must reject spiritism and the worship of idols such as the cross and the Kaaba.

And who is he that overcometh the world, but he that believeth that Jesus is the Son of God? 1 John 5:5 [American Standard Version; ASV]
How, then, can we strengthen our faith? By studying the Bible. The firmness of a wall depends very much on the strength of its foundation. In the same way, the firmness of our faith depends greatly on the strength of its base, which is accurate knowledge of God’s Word, the Bible. If we read and study the Bible daily, our faith will become strong. Like a strong wall, such faith will shield us from the influence of wicked spirits..

SCRIPTURE OF THE DAY [for Thursday]
Do not let yourself be conquered by the evil, but keep conquering the evil with the good.—Romans 12:21.
The apostle Paul knew from his own experience that a persecutor can become a faithful disciple of Christ and a zealous servant of Jehovah. (Gal. 1:13-16, 23) In another letter, Paul stated: “When being reviled, we bless; when being persecuted, we bear up; when being defamed, we entreat.” (1 Cor. 4:12, 13) Accordingly, a true Christian will heed the words of today’s text. The source of all evil is Satan the Devil. (John 8:44; 1 John 5:19) Jesus revealed that his anointed brothers have “conquered [Satan] because of the blood of the Lamb and because of the word of their witnessing.” (Rev. 12:11) This shows that the best way to conquer Satan and the evil influence he is exercising over the present system of things is to do good by our work of witnessing, preaching the good news of the Kingdom.

SCRIPTURE OF THE DAY [for Thursday]
Your people will be my people, and your God my God.—Ruth 1:16.
As a girl, Ruth had probably worshipped Chemosh and the other gods of Moab, but she came to know the true God, Jehovah, and she married an Israelite who had come to take refuge in her land. (Ruth 1:1-6) Later, as Ruth and her sister-in-law, Orpah, started out with their mother-in-law, Naomi, for Bethlehem, Naomi urged the two young women to return home. It would not be easy for them to settle in Israel. Orpah indeed “returned to her people and her gods,” but Ruth did not. (Ruth 1:15) She acted on her faith and knew to whom she wanted to belong. She told Naomi: “Do not plead with me to abandon you, to turn back from accompanying you; for where you go I shall go, and where you spend the night I shall spend the night.” Because of her choice to serve Jehovah, Ruth benefited from God’s Law, which made special provision for widows and for the poor and landless. Under Jehovah’s wings, she found happiness, protection, and security.

SCRIPTURE OF THE DAY [for Sunday]
judgments are and past tracing out his ways are!—Romans 11:33.
Immediately after Adam and Eve sinned, Jehovah revealed the way that he would undo all the bad effects caused by their rebellion. (Gen. 3:15) Such immediate action, as well as his progressively revealing details of this purpose to his servants, brought Jehovah’s wisdom into sharp focus. Nothing can impede God’s ability to handle matters successfully. In a world marked by immorality, war, unreasonableness, disobedience, mercilessness, partiality, and hypocrisy, Jehovah has had ample opportunity to demonstrate to his creatures what real wisdom is. The disciple James said: “The wisdom from above is first of all chaste, then peaceable, reasonable, ready to obey, full of mercy and good fruits, not making partial distinctions, not hypocritical.”—Jas. 3:17.

SCRIPTURE OF THE DAY [for Tuesday]
Be subject therefore unto God; but resist the devil, and he will flee from you.
8 Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye doubleminded. James 4:7 – 8 [American Standard Version; ASV]
Wicked spirits are dangerous, but we need not live in fear of them if we oppose the Devil and draw close to God by doing His will. The power of wicked spirits is limited. They were punished in Noah’s day, and they face their final judgment in the future. (Jude 6) Remember, too, that we have the protection of Almighty God (YHWH) powerful angels. (2 Kings 6:15-17) Those angels are deeply interested in seeing us succeed in resisting wicked spirits. The righteous angels are cheering us on, so to speak. Let us therefore stay close to Jehovah and his family of faithful spirit creatures. May we also avoid every kind of spiritism and always apply the counsel of God’s Word. (1 Peter 5:6, 7; 2 Peter 2:9) Then we can be sure of victory in our fight against wicked spirit creatures.

SCRIPTURE OF THE DAY [for Wednesday]
And as the people were in expectation, and all men reasoned in their hearts concerning John, whether haply he were the Christ; Luke 3:15 [American Standard Version; ASV]
Now, why might the Jews have expected the Messiah to appear at this time? There were a number of reasons. One was, after Jesus was born, Almighty God’s (YHWH’s) angel appeared to shepherds who were tending their flocks in the fields near Bethlehem as recorded at Luke 2:8-11, “And there were shepherds in the same country abiding in the field, and keeping watch by night over their flock. 9 And an angel of the Lord stood by them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid. 10 And the angel said unto them, Be not afraid; for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy which shall be to all the people: 11 for there is born to you this day in the city of David a Saviour, who is Christ the Lord.” [ASV]
