Re: Scripture of the Day

SCRIPTURE OF THE DAY

Go on walking in love.—Ephesians 5:2.

Each Christian should ask himself, ‘Do I make myself available to others or do I often appear to be too busy?’ Habits that are not wrong in themselves can sometimes raise barricades to conversation. If we frequently use a cellular telephone or use earphones to listen to recordings in the presence of others, for example, we may send the message that we prefer not to have their company. If others often see us engrossed in looking at a handheld computer, they might conclude that we do not care to speak to them. Of course, there is “a time to keep quiet.” But when we are around people, it is often the “time to speak.” (Eccl. 3:7) Some might say, “I prefer to keep to myself” or “I don’t feel like talking in the morning.” Nonetheless, engaging in friendly conversation even when we are not inclined to do so is evidence of love that “does not look for its own interests.”—1 Cor. 13:5.

Re: Scripture of the Day

SCRIPTURE OF THE DAY

There is eagerness on my part to declare the good news . . . For I am not ashamed of the good news.—Rom. 1:15, 16.

Like Jesus, his disciples loved and valued the truth about Jehovah and Christ so much that opposers could not discourage them from sharing it with others. Paul considered it an honor to proclaim the truth. He wrote: “To me, . . . this undeserved kindness was given, that I should declare to the nations the good news about the unfathomable riches of the Christ.” (Eph. 3:8) It is not difficult to imagine Paul’s enthusiasm as he taught others about Jehovah and His purposes. The good news found in God’s Word enables us to come to know the Creator and to enter into a loving relationship with him. That good news provides satisfying answers to life’s important questions and has the power to transform our life, to infuse us with hope, and to fortify us in times of adversity.

Re: Scripture of the Day

SCRIPTURE OF THE DAY

Husbands, continue loving your wives, just as the Christ also loved the congregation.—Ephesians 5:25.

Jesus was “mild-tempered and lowly in heart.” (Matt. 11:29) He was also a man of action. Never did he abdicate his responsibilities. (Mark 6:34; John 2:14-17) He kindly gave counsel to his disciples, even repeatedly when necessary. (Matt. 20:21-28; Mark 9:33-37; Luke 22:24-27) Still, Jesus did not berate or humiliate them, nor did he make them feel unloved or incapable of carrying out what he was teaching them to do. Instead, he praised and encouraged his disciples. (Luke 10:17-21) No wonder Jesus gained the respect of his disciples by his loving and compassionate treatment of them! Jesus’ example teaches husbands that Christian headship is not a position of harsh domination. Rather, it is one marked by respect and self-sacrificing love.

Re: Scripture of the Day

SCRIPTURE OF THE DAY

But in the latter days it shall come to pass, that the mountain of Jehovah’s house shall be established on the top of the mountains, and it shall be exalted above the hills; and peoples shall flow unto it.  2  And many nations shall go and say, Come ye, and let us go up to the mountain of Jehovah, and to the house of the God of Jacob; and he will teach us of his ways, and we will walk in his paths. For out of Zion shall go forth the law, and the word of Jehovah from Jerusalem;  Micah 4:1 – 2, [American Standard Version; ASV]

Micah died long ago and this prophecy is still in the future with respect fulfillment.  Even so, he was determined to remain loyal to Almighty God (YHWH) even to death, no matter what others around him did.  In this regard, Micah wrote, “For all the peoples walk every one in the name of his god; and we will walk in the name of Jehovah our God for ever and ever.”  (Micah 4:5).   Micah could wait patiently during distressing times because he had absolute confidence that Almighty God (YHWH) would fulfill all of His promises.  The faithful prophet trusted in Almighty God (YHWH).

=largeAnd Babylon, the glory of kingdoms, the beauty of the Chaldeans’ pride, shall be as when God overthrew Sodom and Gomorrah. Isaiah 13:19 [American Standard Version; ASV]

=largeBabylon was a great and powerful city in its time, but Almighty God (YHWH) foretold its destruction and non-inhabitance after defeat by Cyrus over 200 years before he was even born. Isaiah recorded His prophecy of judgment against Babylon. (Isaiah 13:29 to 23, and Isaiah 14:22 to 24). This prophecy was very clear and details were given to show just how this would occur; to wit, Invading armies of Cyrus would dry up Babylon’s river and march into the city without a battle. But this is not all. Isaiah’s prophecy even named the king who would conquer Babylon. (Isaiah 44:27 to Isaiah 45:2).

=largeThis prophecy of doom against Babylon was realized some 200 years later – on the night of October 5/6, 539 B.C.E. an army encamped near Babylon and its commander was a Persian king named Cyrus. The stage was set for the fulfillment of this amazing prophecy, and the invasion took place exactly as prophesized.

Re: Scripture of the Day

SCRIPTURE OF THE DAY

You know that foreign rulers like to order their people around.  And their greal leaders have full power over everyone they ruled.  But don’t act like them.  If you want to be great, you must be the servant of all the others.  Matthew 20:25-26  [Contemporary English Version: CEV]

Jesus’ (Yeshua) view of a spiritual shepherds’ role was different from that once manifested by James And John.  The two apostles once sought to secure a prominent position in the Kingdom.  However He corrected their attitude at Matthew 20:25-26 as shown above.  Thus, the Apostles needed to resist a tendency toward wanting to ‘lord it over’ their companions, or to ‘order people around.’

And, the Apostle Paul said at Acts 20:18-19, “And when they were come to him, he said unto them, Ye yourselves know, from the first day that I set foot in Asia, after what manner I was with you all the time, serving the Lord with all lowliness of mind, and with tears, and with trials which befell me by the plots of the Jews;” [American Standard Version; ASV]  In fact, the Apostle Paul was telling the Corinthians that he would not be master over their faith.  Instead, he was a humble fellow worker for their joy.  (2 Corinthians 1:24)  Thus, the Apostle Paul set a fine example of humility and hard work for those taking the lead among the genuine followers of Christ today.

Re: Scripture of the Day

SCRIPTURE OF THE DAY

and being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, becoming obedient even unto death, yea, the death of the cross.  9  Wherefore also God highly exalted him, and gave unto him the name which is above every name;  10  that in the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven and things on earth and things under the earth,  11  and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.  Phillipians 2:8 – 11  [American Standard Version; ASV]

Because of Jesus’ (Yeshua’s) wholehearted devotion, Almighty God (YHWH) blessed him during his ministry on earth and rewarded him after his sacrificial death.  The apostle Paul wrote: “being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, becoming obedient even unto death, yea, the death of the cross [[torture stake]].”  For this very reason, Almighty God (YHWH) exalted him to a superior position and kindly gave him the name that is above every other name, so that in the name of Jesus (Yeshua0 every knee should bend – of those in heaven and those on earth and those under the ground – and every tongue should openly acknowledge that Jesus (Yeshua) Christ is Lord to the glory of Almighty God (YHWH), the Father.  Almighty God (YHWH) blessed Jesus (Yeshua) ‘forever’ by resurrecting him to immortal life.  (Romans 6:9).

SCRIPTURE OF THE DAY

Thine arrows are sharp; The peoples fall under thee; They are in the heart of the king’s enemies.  Psalm 45:5  [American Standard Version; ASV]

The King is mounted on a white horse, representing warfare that is clean and righteous in Almighty God’s (YHWH’s)  eyes. (Rev. 6:2; 19:11) In addition to a sword, he is equipped with a bow. We read: “I saw, and look! a white horse, and the one seated on it had a bow; and a crown was given him, and he went out conquering and to complete his conquest.” (Psalm 45:3 -4)  Both the sword and the bow represent the means that Christ will use to execute judgment on his enemies.

Re: Scripture of the Day

SCRIPTURE OF THE DAY

Serve Jehovah with fear, And rejoice with trembling.  12  Kiss the son, lest he be angry, and ye perish in the way, For his wrath will soon be kindled. Blessed are all they that take refuge in him.   Psalm 2:11 – 12   [American Standard Version; ASV]

As he rides forth, the King has a sword strapped on his side. (Ps. 45:3, (New World Translation Revised; [NWTr])    But the time comes for him to take the sword and wield it with his right hand. The psalmist prophesies: “Your right hand will accomplish awe-inspiring things.” (Ps. 45:4, [NWTr])   When Jesus Christ rides forth to execute Jehovah’s judgments at Armageddon, he will accomplish “awe-inspiring things” against his enemies. Just what means he will use to destroy Satan’s system, we do not know. But that action will strike terror in the heart of the inhabitants of the earth who have not heeded the divine warning to submit to the King’s rule.   In his prophecy regarding the time of the end, Jesus said that people would become “faint out of fear and expectation of the things coming upon the inhabited earth, for the powers of the heavens will be shaken.” He added: “And then they will see the Son of man coming in a cloud with power and great glory.”—Luke 21:26, 27 [NWTr] qq1.

Re: Scripture of the Day

SCRIPTURE OF THE DAY

Do not be anxious over anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication along with thanksgiving let your petitions be made known to God.—Phil. 4:6.

“To supplicate” means “to make a humble entreaty.” Especially during danger or persecution should we beseech Jehovah for help and guidance. If we prayed only when we needed something, however, what would that reveal about our motives? Paul said that we should make our petitions known to God “along with thanksgiving.” We certainly have reason to express sentiments like those of David found at 1 Chronicles 29:11-13. Jesus thanked God for food and for the bread and wine used at the Lord’s Evening Meal. (Matt. 15:36; Mark 14:22, 23) Besides expressing similar gratitude, we should “give thanks to Jehovah” for “his wonderful works to the sons of men,” for his “righteous judicial decisions,” and for his word, or message, now available in the Bible.—Ps. 107:15; 119:62, 105.
