Re: Scripture of the Day

SCRIPTURE OF THE DAY [Sunday]

Then said Jesus unto them, When ye have lifted up the Son of man, then shall ye know that I am he, and that I do nothing of myself; but as my Father hath taught me, I speak these things.  And he that sent me is with me: the Father hath not left me alone; for I do always those things that please him.  John 8:28  (Authorized King James Bible; AV)

Can children learn from Jesus?   Yes, they can!   By his own example, Jesus showed how children should obey their parents. “but as my Father hath taught me,” he said, “I speak...” He added: “for I do always those things that please him.”   Jesus was obedient to his heavenly Father, and the Bible tells children to obey their parents. (Ephesians 6:1-3)   Although Jesus was a perfect child, he obeyed his human parents, Joseph and Mary, who were imperfect.   That surely contributed to the happiness of every member of Jesus’ family!—Luke 2:4, 5,51, 52.

Re: Scripture of the Day

SCRIPTURE OF THE DAY [Monday]

Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.  Acts 4:12  (Authorized King James Bible; AV)

True Christians accept Jesus Christ as God’s means of salvation.  Jesus (Yeshua) Christ gave his life as a ransom for obedient humans. (Matthew 20:28) In addition, Jesus is God’s appointed King in the heavenly Kingdom that will rule the entire earth. And God requires that we obey Jesus and apply his teachings if we want everlasting life. That is why the Bible states: “He that exercises faith in the Son has everlasting life; he that disobeys the Son will not see life.”—John 3:36.

Re: Scripture of the Day

SCRIPTURE OF THE DAY [Tuesday]

By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another.  John 13:35  (Authorized King James Bible; AV)

God’s people show genuine, unselfish love for one another.    The early Christians had such love for one another.  Godly love overcomes racial, social, and national barriers and draws people together in an unbreakable bond of true brotherhood. (Colossians 3:14)   Members of false religions do not have such a loving brotherhood. How do we know that?   They kill one another because of national or ethnic differences. True Christians do not take up weapons to kill their Christian brothers or anyone else.  The Bible states: “In this the children of God are manifest, and the children of the devil: whosoever doeth not righteousness is not of God, neither he that loveth not his brother.   For this is the message that ye heard from the beginning, that we should love one another.  Not as Cain, who was of that wicked one, and slew his brother. And wherefore slew he him? Because his own works were evil, and his brother’s righteous.” ,  (1 John 3:10 – 12,  [AV])

Of course, genuine love means more than not killing others.   True Christians unselfishly use their time, energy, and resources to assist and encourage one another. (Hebrews 10:24, 25)   They help one another in times of distress, and they deal honestly with others. In fact, they apply in their lives the Bible counsel to “As we have therefore opportunity, let us do good unto all men, especially unto them who are of the household of faith.”  (Galatians 6:10,  [AV]).

SCRIPTURE OF THE DAY [Wednesday]

Then saith Jesus unto him, Get thee hence, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.   Matthew 4:10  (Authorized King James Bible; AV)

Those who practice the true religion worship only Jehovah and make his name known.   Jesus declared this at  Matthew 4:10 as shown above.  Thus, God’s servants worship no one other than Jehovah.   This worship includes letting people know what the name of the true God is and what he is like. Psalm 83:18 states: “That men may know that thou, whose name alone is JEHOVAH, art the most high over all the earth.” [AV].   Jesus set the pattern in helping others to get to know God, as he said in prayer: “I have manifested thy name unto the men which thou gavest me out of the world: thine they were, and thou gavest them me; and they have kept thy word.” (John 17:6,  [AV]).   Similarly, true worshipers today teach others about God’s name, his purposes, and his qualities.

Re: Scripture of the Day

SCRIPTURE OF THE DAY [Thursday]

Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.  John 17:17  (Authorized King James Bible; AV)

Jesus (Yeshua) Christ set the proper example by basing his teachings on God’s Word. In prayer to his heavenly Father, showing that His Father’s, Almighty God (YHWH), was TRUTH.  Jesus believed the Word of God, and everything he taught harmonized with the Scriptures.   Jesus often said: “…It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God..” (Matthew 4:4,  [AV])   Then Jesus would quote a scripture. Similarly, God’s people today do not teach their own ideas.  They believe that the Bible is God’s Word, and they base their teachings firmly on what it says.

Re: Scripture of the Day

SCRIPTURE OF THE DAY [Friday]

Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles?  Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit.  Matthew 7:16 – 17  (Authorized King James Bible; AV)

How can ‘the road to life’ be found?   Jesus said that  the true religion would be evident in the lives of the people who practice it. “Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them.” (Matthew 7:10,  [AV]), he said. “A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit.” (Matthew 7:18,  [AV]) In other words, those who practice the true religion would be recognized by their beliefs and their conduct. Although they are not perfect and they make mistakes, true worshipers as a group seek to do God’s will.

Re: Scripture of the Day

SCRIPTURE OF THE DAY [Saturday]

Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat:  Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.  Matthew 7:13 – 14  (Authorized King James Bible; AV)

Jehovah gives everyone on earth the opportunity to gain everlasting life.   To have eternal life in Paradise, however, we must worship God properly and live now in a way that is acceptable to him. Sadly, many refuse to do so.  True religion leads to everlasting life.   False religion leads to destruction. Jehovah does not want any human to be destroyed, and that is why he is giving people everywhere an opportunity to learn about him, and at 2 Peter 3:9, “The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us–ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.” [AV]   Really, then, the way we worship God means either life or death for us.

Re: Scripture of the Day

SCRIPTURE OF THE DAY [Sunday]

That men may know that thou, whose name alone is JEHOVAH, art the most high over all the earth.  Psalms 83:18  (Authorized King James Bible; AV)

There is only one true God, and the Bible shows his name is Jehovah (YHWH).  He is a Spirit; we cannot see him.   He loves us and wants us to love him in return.   He also wants us to love other people.   In fact, when his Son, Jesus (Yeshua) Christ was challenged by evil religious leaders of that time, “But when the Pharisees had heard that he had put the Sadducees to silence, they were gathered together.   Then one of them, which was a lawyer, asked him a question, tempting him, and saying,  Master, which is the great commandment in the law?  Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.  This is the first and great commandment.  And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.  On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.” (Matthew 22:34-40,  [AV]) He showed that all the scriptures ‘hang’ on love, i.e., love of Almighty God (YHWH) and love of ones neighbor.

SCRIPTURE OF THE DAY [Monday]

Judge not, that ye be not judged.  For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again.  Matthew 7:1 – 2  (Authorized King James Bible; AV)

Do not judge others.   Jesus taught us not to judge others for the mistakes that they make.   He also said: “And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother’s eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye?   Or how wilt thou say to thy brother, Let me pull out the mote out of thine eye; and, behold, a beam is in thine own eye?   Thou hypocrite, first cast out the beam out of thine own eye; and then shalt thou see clearly to cast out the mote out of thy brother’s eye..” (Matthew 7:3-5,  [AV])   The lesson is that we should not criticize other people when they make mistakes because we make many mistakes ourselves.

SCRIPTURE OF THE DAY [Tuesday]

Nay, much more those members of the body, which seem to be more feeble, are necessary:  1 Corinthians 12:22  (Authorized King James Bible; AV)

Let’s face it, we all feel weak at times.   A bout of flu or allergies may weaken us to the point that we find it difficult to cope with our daily activities.   Now imagine that you have felt feeble, not just for one or two weeks, but for months on end. In such a situation, would you not appreciate it if others displayed an empathetic attitude toward you?
The apostle Paul knew what it was like to be affected, even weakened, by pressures from outside the congregation and from within it. More than once, he thought that he had reached his limit. (2 Cor. 1:8; 7:5) Reflecting on his life and the many hardships that he had experienced as a faithful Christian, Paul admitted: “Who is weak, and I am not weak? who is offended, and I burn not? (2 Cor. 11:29,  [AV]) And regarding the various members of the Christian congregation, likened to parts of the human body, Paul stated that those who “Nay, much more those members of the body, which seem to be more feeble, are necessary:” (1 Cor. 12:22,  [AV]) What did he mean? Why do we need to view those who seem to be weaker as Jehovah views them? And how will our doing so benefit us?
