SCRIPTURE OF THE DAY [Wednesday]
But the LORD said unto Samuel, Look not on his countenance, or on the height of his stature; because I have refused him: for the LORD seeth not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the LORD looketh on the heart. 1 Samuel 16:7 (Authorized King James Bible; AV)
In order to adjust our thinking to that of Jehovah’s, we should analyze our view of those who seem to be weak. For example, how do we react when a teenager does not exercise discretion in his choice of entertainment or when he displays a careless attitude? Instead of being overly critical, why not reflect on what we might do to help him grow to maturity? We can take the initiative to assist someone in need of help, and in doing so, we actually grow in understanding and love.

SCRIPTURE OF THE DAY [Thursday]
And as he lay and slept under a juniper tree, behold, then an angel touched him, and said unto him, Arise and eat. And he looked, and, behold, there was a cake baken on the coals, and a cruse of water at his head. And he did eat and drink, and laid him down again. And the angel of the LORD came again the second time, and touched him, and said, Arise and eat; because the journey is too great for thee. And he arose, and did eat and drink, and went in the strength of that meat forty days and forty nights unto Horeb the mount of God. 1 Kings 19:5 – 8 (Authorized King James Bible; AV)
We are also helped to broaden our view of others by comparing our thinking with Jehovah’s reaction to some of his servants who felt low in spirits. Elijah was one of them. Although he had fearlessly challenged 450 prophets of Baal, Elijah ran away from Queen Jezebel when he learned that she was plotting to kill him. After walking some 95 miles (150 km) to Beer-sheba, he went deep into the wilderness. Exhausted by this trek under the blazing sun, the prophet sat down under a tree and “asked that he might die.”—1 Ki. 18:19; 19:1-4.
How did Jehovah feel when he looked down from heaven and saw his faithful prophet in despair? Did he reject his servant because he temporarily became depressed and lacked courage? Not at all! Jehovah took into account Elijah’s limitations and dispatched an angel. Twice the angel encouraged Elijah to eat. Thus, the next journey would not “be too much for [him].” Yes, even before giving any directions, Jehovah listened to his prophet and took practical measures to sustain him.

SCRIPTURE OF THE DAY [Friday]
If a brother or sister be naked, and destitute of daily food, And one of you say unto them, Depart in peace, be ye warmed and filled; notwithstanding ye give them not those things which are needful to the body; what doth it profit? Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone. James 2:15 – 17 (Authorized King James Bible; AV)
How can we imitate our caring God? We should not be quick to offer advice. (Prov. 18:13) It would be better first to take the time to express our empathy to those who may think that they are “less honorable” because of their personal circumstances. (1 Cor. 12:23) Then we would be in a position to act appropriately, according to the true need.
For example, think of a women, whose husband has abandoned her and her daughters. They found them. That likely brings to your mind what James wrote as given above. We need to provide them with their physical needs in these troubling times, and not just tell them to depart in peace.

SCRIPTURE OF THE DAY [Saturday]
An high look, and a proud heart, and the plowing of the wicked, is sin. Proverbs 21:4 (Authorized King James Bible; AV)
“Charity suffereth long, and is kind; charity envieth not; charity vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up, Doth not behave itself unseemly, seeketh not her own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil; Rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in the truth; Beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things.” (1 Corinthians 13:4 – 8, [AV]) Jehovah is patient and kind toward all people even though they are imperfect. So we need to be patient and kind when others make mistakes, even if they are unkind or rude to us. The Bible says that “love is not jealous.” Some may have privileges or other things that we do not have. The Bible tells us that Jehovah hates those who have a greedy disposition.

SCRIPTURE OF THE DAY [Sunday]
Look not every man on his own things, but every man also on the things of others. Philippians 2:4 (Authorized King James Bible; AV)
Love “Doth not behave itself unseemly, seeketh not her own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil;” ( 1 Corinthians 13:5, [AV]) If we show love for our neighbor, we will not lie to him or steal from him or do anything else that makes Jehovah unhappy. Also, we will not be selfish, because love does not look for its own interests. So we will always do what is best for our neighbor.
Love “See that none render evil for evil unto any man; but ever follow that which is good, both among yourselves, and to all men.” (1 Thessalonians 5:15, [AV]) If someone does something unkind to us, we do not quickly become angry. We should not keep a record of all the times that a person hurts us. If we hold a grudge, our anger could burn like a fire, hurting ourselves and others. (Leviticus 19:18) Instead, we should forgive and forget. Love “Rejoice not when thine enemy falleth, and let not thine heart be glad when he stumbleth: Lest the LORD see it, and it displease him, and he turn away his wrath from him.” (Proverbs 27:17 – 18, [AV]) If a person who hates us is treated unfairly, we are not happy to see him suffer.

SCRIPTURE OF THE DAY [Monday]
But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear: 1 Peter 3:15 (Authorized King James Bible; AV)
Paul wrote that love “Beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things.” (1 Corinthians 13:7, [AV]) When we love our neighbor, we will forgive him when he does something that upsets us. Paul also said that love “believes all things.” We believe what we read in the Bible and are thankful to be taught by Jehovah’s organization. We have hope because we trust in all the things that Jehovah has promised us. And because we love people, we will do our best to tell them about our hope. When we face very difficult situations, we pray and hope for the best results. Even if somebody sins against us or persecutes us, we endure. As Paul said, love “endures all things.” He also said: “Love never fails.” Those who are obedient to Jehovah will show love to their neighbor forever.

SCRIPTURE OF THE DAY [Wednesday]
but if any man loveth God, the same is known by him. 1 Corinthians 8:3 [American Standard Version: AVS]
Numbers 16:1 – 11 clearly shows how some can delude themselves, let’s look at it, “Now Korah, the son of Izhar, the son of Kohath, the son of Levi, with Dathan and Abiram, the sons of Eliab, and On, the son of Peleth, sons of Reuben, took men: and they rose up before Moses, with certain of the children of Israel, two hundred and fifty princes of the congregation, called to the assembly, men of renown; and they assembled themselves together against Moses and against Aaron, and said unto them, Ye take too much upon you, seeing all the congregation are holy, every one of them, and Jehovah is among them: wherefore then lift ye up yourselves above the assembly of Jehovah? And when Moses heard it, he fell upon his face: and he spake unto Korah and unto all his company, saying, In the morning Jehovah will show who are his, and who is holy, and will cause him to come near unto him: even him whom he shall choose will he cause to come near unto him. This do: take you censers, Korah, and all his company; and put fire in them, and put incense upon them before Jehovah to–morrow: and it shall be that the man whom Jehovah doth choose, he shall be holy: ye take too much upon you, ye sons of Levi. And Moses said unto Korah, Hear now, ye sons of Levi: seemeth it but a small thing unto you, that the God of Israel hath separated you from the congregation of Israel, to bring you near to himself, to do the service of the tabernacle of Jehovah, and to stand before the congregation to minister unto them; and that he hath brought thee near, and all thy brethren the sons of Levi with thee? and seek ye the priesthood also? Therefore thou and all thy company are gathered together against Jehovah: and Aaron, what is he that ye murmur against him?” [ASV] They had deluded themselves into thinking that God would accept their worship. But such an expectation was insulting to Jehovah, who can read hearts and could see their hypocrisy.—Jer. 17:10.
Appropriately, the day before, Moses had predicted, that in the morning Jehovah will make known who belongs to him. Sure enough, Jehovah differentiated between genuine worshippers and counterfeit ones when “And fire came forth from Jehovah, and devoured the two hundred and fifty men that offered the incense.” (Numbers 16:35, [ASV] ) And, and the earth opened its mouth, and swallowed them up together with Korah, when that company died; what time the fire devoured two hundred and fifty men, and they became a sign.“ (Numbers 26:10, [ASV]) At the same time, Jehovah spared the life of Aaron, signaling approval of the real priest and genuine worshipper of God.

SCRIPTURE OF THE DAY [Thursday]
Who concerning the truth have erred, saying that the resurrection is past already; and overthrow the faith of some. Nevertheless the foundation of God standeth sure, having this seal, The Lord knoweth them that are his. And, Let every one that nameth the name of Christ depart from iniquity. 2 Timothy 2:18 – 19 [authorized King James Bible; AV]
A similar situation arose some 1,500 years later in the apostle Paul’s day. Certain professed Christians adopted false teachings; yet, they continued to associate with the congregation. To the casual observer, these apostates might not have been different from others in the congregation. But their apostasy presented a danger to faithful Christians. These wolves in sheep’s clothing began “subverting the faith of some.” Jehovah is no casual observer, however, and Paul would have known this from the way God handled the situation with the rebels—Korah and his supporters—centuries earlier. In this regard, let us consider an intriguing passage of Scripture and see what practical lessons we can learn from it. (Numbers 16:35, and Numbers 26:10)
