Re: Scripture of the Day

SCRIPTURE OF THE DAY

But you remain forever, O Jehovah, And your fame will endure for all generations.  Psalms 102:12  [New World Translation Revised: NWTr]

Psalm 102 also shows how you might gain a more positive viewpoint.   The psalmist did so by shifting attention to his relationship with Jehovah. (Ps. 102:12, 27)   He found comfort in knowing that Jehovah would always be there to sustain His people through trials.   So if negative feelings temporarily keep you from doing as much as you want to in God’s service, pray about it.   Ask Almighty God (YHWH) to hear your prayer not only so that you may experience some relief from your distress but also “So that the name of Jehovah will be declared in Zion And his praise in Jerusalem,.”—Ps. 102:21.   For more information, go to Exodus 6:3, Psalms 83:18.

SCRIPTURE OF THE DAY

Euodia I exhort and Syntyche I exhort to be of the same mind in the Lord.—Philippians  4:2.

Euodia and Syntyche, two Christian sisters in ancient Philippi, apparently had some difficulty in resolving a problem that arose between them. A heated dispute between Paul and Barnabas became public knowledge and resulted in their going separate ways for a while. (Acts 15:37-39) These accounts show that true worshippers are not immune to disagreements. Jehovah provides us with help to resolve conflicts and restore friendships. But he requires something of us. Imagine that you and a friend are going to take a trip by automobile. Before you can begin your journey, you must put a key into the ignition and start the car’s engine. The process of resolving personal differences is also started with a key. The key is humility. (Jas. 4:10) That key allows those at odds with each other to begin applying Bible principles.

SCRIPTURE OF THE DAY

All those taking refuge in [Jehovah] will rejoice; to time indefinite they will cry out joyfully.—Psalms 5:11.

Genuine followers of Jesus (Yeshua) Christ are not immune to the calamities that befall mankind in general. Many of God’s people have been victims of crime, war, and other injustices. Natural disasters, poverty, sickness, and death cause much distress. (Rom. 8:22) We are also victims of our own imperfection. (Ps. 38:4) And, like Jesus, true Christians are hated and persecuted. (Matt. 10:22, 23; John 15:20; 16:2) Does this mean that true Christians pursue a life devoid of joy and happiness? Should our lives be marked only by sadness and grief until the end comes? Clearly, Jehovah wants us to be happy as we await the fulfillment of his promises. Time and again, the Bible describes true worshippers as happy people. (Isa. 65:13, 14) Yes, it is possible to experience considerable joy, peace of mind, and contentment even in the midst of calamities.

SCRIPTURE OF THE DAY

What actually will there be for us?—Matthew  19:27.

Peter wanted to know what the future held for him and for Jesus’ other disciples. To devote themselves fully to the Kingdom-preaching work, they had made important sacrifices. (Matt. 4:18-22) What assurance did Jesus give them? Jesus indicated that his disciples would be part of a spiritual brotherhood. He said: “No one has left house or brothers or sisters or mother or father or children or fields for my sake and for the sake of the good news who will not get a hundredfold now in this period of time, houses and brothers and sisters and mothers and children and fields, with persecutions, and in the coming system of things everlasting life.” (Mark 10:29, 30) First-century Christians, such as Lydia, Aquila, Priscilla, and Gaius, were among those who provided “houses” and became “brothers and sisters and mothers” to fellow believers, as Jesus had promised.—Acts 16:14, 15; 18:2-4; 3 John 1, 5-8.

Re: Scripture of the Day

SCRIPTURE OF THE DAY

He went a day’s journey into the wilderness and came and sat down under a broom tree, and he asked that he might die. He said: “It is enough! Now, O Jehovah, take my life away, for I am no better than my forefathers.”  1 Kings 19:4  [New World Translation Revised: NWTr]

For those who have not experienced such despair might be tempted to dismiss Elijah’s prayer as mere “wild talk.” (Job 6:3) However, his feelings were real. Note, though, that rather than chastise Elijah for wanting to die, Almighty God (YHWH)  helped him.

How had Elijah come to feel as he did? Shortly before this, he had presided over a decisive test in Israel that proved that Jehovah is the true God, and this led to the execution of 450 prophets of Baal. (1 Ki. 18:37-40) Elijah likely hoped that God’s people would now return to pure worship, but that did not happen. Wicked Queen Jezebel sent a message to Elijah that she was arranging for him to be killed. Fearing for his life, Elijah fled south across neighboring Judah into the wilderness, a barren and wild place.—1 Ki. 19:2-4.

Alone with his thoughts, Elijah reflected on the seeming futility of his work as a prophet. He told Jehovah: “…for I am no better than my forefathers.” (1 Kings 19:4) [NWTr]  His point was that he felt as useless as the dust and bones of his dead ancestors. He had, in effect, tested himself by his own standards and had decided that he was a failure, of no value to Jehovah or anyone else.

But the Almighty God (YHWH)  saw Elijah differently. Elijah remained valuable in God’s eyes, and Jehovah took steps to assure him of that reality. God sent an angel to strengthen Elijah. Jehovah also provided food and drink that would sustain Elijah during his 40-day trip south to Mount Horeb. Moreover, God kindly corrected Elijah’s mistaken idea that no other Israelites had remained faithful to Jehovah. Significantly, God gave Elijah new assignments, which he accepted. Elijah benefited from Jehovah’s help, and he returned to his work as a prophet with renewed energy.—1 Ki. 19:5-8, 15-19.

Re: Scripture of the Day

SCRIPTURE OF THE DAY

He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love.  1 John 4:8  [American Standard Version; ASV]

Genuine love for family and for neighbor is what distinguish genuine followers of Jesus (Yeshua) Christ from the multitude of believers in false religions.   When love does not exist within the family circle, terrible atrocities occur.   Here is an example of one case of tragedy occurring due to lack of love and caring within the family circle.
“Pakistan woman stoned to death by family for marrying man she loved  [img]file:///C:\DOCUME~1\ADMINI~1\LOCALS~1\Temp\msohtml1\20\clip_image001.jpg[/img]  By  Mubasher Bukhari6 hours ago
LAHORE Pakistan (Reuters) - A 25-year-old woman was stoned to death by her family outside one of Pakistan's top courts on Tuesday in a so-called "honor" killing for marrying the man she loved, police said.
Farzana Iqbal was waiting for the High Court in the eastern city of Lahore to open when a group of around dozen men began attacking her with bricks, said Umer Cheema, a senior police officer.
Her father, two brothers and former fiance were among the attackers, he said. Iqbal suffered severe head injuries and was pronounced dead in hospital, police said.
All the suspects except her father escaped. He admitted killing his daughter, Cheema said, and explained it was a matter of honor. Many Pakistani families think a woman marrying her own choice of man brings dishonor on the family.
Iqbal had been engaged to her cousin but married another man, Cheema said. Her family registered a kidnapping case against him but Iqbal had come to court to argue that she had married of her own free will, he said.
Around 1,000 Pakistani women are killed every year by their families in honor killings, according to Pakistani rights group the Aurat Foundation.
The true figure is probably many times higher since the Aurat Foundation only compiles figures from newspaper reports. The government does not compile national statistics.
Campaigners say few cases come to court, and those that do can take years to be heard. No one tracks how many cases are successfully prosecuted.
Even those that do result in a conviction may end with the killers walking free. Pakistani law allows a victim's family to forgive their killer.”
No love within the family circle here.

SCRIPTURE OF THE DAY

The drawing near to God is good for me.—Ps. 73:28.

We cannot fully enjoy the benefits of being a member of Jehovah’s family without making a vow of dedication. So we dedicate ourselves to God because, in spite of our imperfection, we desire to belong to him and are resolved to be loyal to him, come what may. (Matt. 22:37) When we dedicate ourselves to God, we perform an act of faith. Why is that so? Our faith in Jehovah makes us confident that drawing close to God is good for us. We know that it will not always be easy to walk with God while living among “a crooked and twisted generation,” but we trust in God’s promise to support us in our efforts. (Phil. 2:15; 4:13) We know that we are imperfect, but we are confident that Jehovah will deal mercifully with us even when we make mistakes. (Ps. 103:13, 14; Rom. 7:21-25) We have faith that Jehovah will reward our resolve to keep our integrity.—Job 27:5..

SCRIPTURE OF THE DAY

The word of God is alive and exerts power.—Hebrews 4:12.

What power God’s word, or message, has! In a figurative sense, the message emanating from the Bible is sharper than any man-made sword, for it figuratively pierces to the dividing of bones and their marrow. Scriptural truth reaches the innermost part of a person and penetrates his thoughts and emotions, exposing what he really is on the inside. That truth can exert its transforming power and can bring about genuine changes in a person. (Col. 3:10) Yes, God’s Word can change lives! Moreover, the Bible is a book of matchless wisdom. It contains helpful information that can show people how to live in this complex world. (Ps. 119:105) It is a tremendous help when we are dealing with problems or are making decisions about our choice of friends, entertainment, employment, dress, and so forth.—Ps. 37:25; Prov. 13:20; John 15:14; 1 Tim. 2:9.

SCRIPTURE OF THE DAY

Forgive whatever you have against anyone; in order that your Father who is in the heavens may also forgive you.—Mark 11:25.

Though you were baptized in the name of the Son, you are keenly aware of your own sinful inclinations. That awareness is helpful every day. For example, if someone offends you, do you bear in mind that both of you are sinners? You both need God’s forgiveness, and you should both be forgiving. To emphasize this need, Jesus gave an illustration: The master of a slave canceled his debt of ten thousand talents (60 million denarii). Later, that slave would not release his fellow slave who owed him 100 denarii. Jesus then made this point: Jehovah will not forgive the one who does not forgive his brother. (Matt. 18:23-35) Yes, being baptized in the name of the Son means recognizing Jesus’ authority and striving to follow his example and teachings, including that of being willing to forgive others.—1 Pet. 2:21; 1 John 2:6.

Re: Scripture of the Day

Every good tree produces fine fruit, but every rotten tree produces worthless fruit.—Matthew  7:17.

Jesus said that those falsely professing to serve him would be distinguished from his true followers by their fruits—their teachings and their conduct. (Matt. 7:15, 16, 20) Indeed, people are inevitably influenced by what they take into their mind and heart. (Matt. 15:18, 19) Those who are fed falsehoods produce “worthless fruit,” whereas those who are taught spiritual truth produce “fine fruit.” The two kinds of fruits have become clearly manifest during this time of the end. (Dan. 12:3, 10) False Christians have a distorted view of God and often a hypocritical form of godly devotion, whereas those having spiritual insight worship God “with spirit and truth.” (John 4:24; 2 Tim. 3:1-5) Ask yourself: ‘Do my conduct and teachings clearly harmonize with God’s Word? Do I beautify the truth in the eyes of those searching for it?’
