Re: Scripture of the Day

SCRIPTURE OF THE DAY [Tuesday]

Jesus approached and spoke to them, saying: “All authority has been given me in heaven and on the earth.  Matthew 28:18   [New World Translation Revised: NWTr]

Could the only-begotten Son receive even more power and authority?   Following Jesus’ death on earth and his resurrection, all authority was given to him.  Yes, Jesus has been granted the ability and the right to exercise power  universally. As “King of kings and Lord of lords,” he has been authorized to bring to “nothing all government and all authority and power”—visible and invisible—that stand in opposition to his Father. (Revelation 19:16; 1 Corinthians 15:24-26) God has “left nothing that is not subject to” Jesus—that is, with the exception of Jehovah himself. As shown at 1 Corinthians 15:27, “For God “subjected all things under his feet.” But when he says that ‘all things have been subjected,’ it is evident that this does not include the One who subjected all things to him.”  [NWTr]

Re: Scripture of the Day

SCRIPTURE OF THE DAY [Wednesday]

And the One who sent me is with me; he did not abandon me to myself, because I always do the things pleasing to him.” John 8:29 [New World Translation Revised: NWTr]

Do we need to worry that Jesus might misuse his power? Absolutely not! Jesus really loves his Father and would never do anything to displease him. (John14:31) Jesus well knows that Jehovah never misuses his almighty power. Jesus has observed firsthand that Almighty God (YHWH) searches for opportunities “to show his strength in behalf of those whose heart is complete toward him.” (2 Chronicles 16:9) Indeed, Jesus shares his Father’s love for mankind, so we can trust that Jesus will always use his power for good. (John 13:1) Jesus has established a flawless record in this regard. Let us consider the power he had while on earth and how he was moved to use it.

Re: Scripture of the Day

SCRIPTURE OF THE DAY [Thursday]

He committed no sin, nor was deception found in his mouth.  1 Peter 2:22  [New World Translation Revised: NWTr]

Can you imagine the potential for abuse if Jesus’ (Yeshua’s) power were placed in the hands of an imperfect ruler? But Jesus (Yeshua) was sinless.  He refused to be tainted by the selfishness, ambition, and greed that drive imperfect men to use their power to hurt others.

Jesus (Yeshua) was unselfish in the use of his power, never employing it for personal gain. When he was hungry, he refused to turn stones into bread for himself. (Matthew 4:1-4)  His meager possessions were evidence that he did not profit materially from the use of his power. (Matthew 8:20)  There is further proof that his powerful works sprang from unselfish motives. When he performed miracles, he did so at some cost to himself.  When he cured the sick, power went out of him. He was sensitive to this outflow of power, even in the case of just one cure. (Mark 5:25-34)  Yet, he let crowds of people touch him, and they were healed. (Luke 6:19) What a selfless spirit!

This powerful man, Jesus (Yeshua), was nothing like those rulers and false prophets such as the brutal Muhammad who have wielded power in callous disregard for the needs and suffering of others. Jesus (Yeshua) cared about people. The mere sight of the afflicted touched him so deeply that he was motivated to relieve their suffering. (Matthew 14:14)  He was considerate of their feelings and needs, and this tender concern influenced the way he used his power.  A moving example is found at Mark 7:31-37.

SCRIPTURE OF THE DAY [Friday]

Now it came to pass, when all the people were baptized, that, Jesus also having been baptized, and praying, the heaven was opened,  Luke 3:21  [American Standard Version; ASV]

Evidently, Jesus (Yeshua) performed no miracles when he was a boy growing up in Nazareth.  But that changed after he was baptized in 29 C.E., at about 30 years of age.  The Bible tells us: “God anointed him with holy spirit and power, and he went through the land doing good and healing all those oppressed by the Devil.” (Acts 10:38) “Doing good”—does that not indicate that Jesus used his power aright? After his anointing, he “became a prophet powerful in work and word.”—Luke 24:19.

SCRIPTURE OF THE DAY [Saturday]

Your God whom you are serving with constancy, he himself will rescue you.—Daniel  6:16.

The prophet Daniel demonstrated the importance of regularity in worship. (Dan. 6:4-10, 19-22) He did not change his spiritual routine—his habit of praying to God “three times in a day, . . . as he had been regularly doing”—even for one month, although that meant being thrown into the lions’ pit. How clearly his actions indicated to observers that nothing is more important than regular worship of Jehovah! (Matt. 5:16) Daniel was willing to die rather than neglect his spiritual routine. What about us? What sacrifices are we making or are we willing to make in order to declare the good news of God’s Kingdom with constancy? Why, we should not let a month go by without speaking about Jehovah to others!

Re: Scripture of the Day

SCRIPTURE OF THE DAY [Sunday]

There is more happiness in giving than there is in receiving.—Acts 20:35.

There is no body of knowledge more precious or more important than the good news. It is a priceless gift that has been given to us, bringing us great joy. And it brings us added joy when we share that gift with others. What can you do to strengthen your love for the good news even further? While reading God’s Word, pause at times to reflect on what you read. For example, imagine yourself accompanying Jesus (Yeshua) during his earthly ministry or traveling along with the apostle Paul. Picture yourself in the new world, and envision how different life will be. Reflect on the blessings you have received through your obedience to the good news. If you keep your love for the good news strong, those whom you teach will sense that love. For good reason, then, we should carefully ponder what we have learned and pay attention to what we teach.—1 Tim. 4:15, 16.

Re: Scripture of the Day

SCRIPTURE OF THE DAY [Monday]

He is . . . mentally diseased over questionings and debates about words.—1 Timothy 6:4.

Could Timothy risk toying with the harmful ideas that were infiltrating the congregation? No, for Paul urged Timothy to “fight the fine fight of the faith” and turn away “from the empty speeches that violate what is holy and from the contradictions of the falsely called ‘knowledge.’” (1 Tim. 6:12, 20, 21) There can be no doubt that Timothy followed Paul’s wise advice. (1 Cor. 10:12) Interestingly, Timothy was told that in “later periods of time some [would] fall away from the faith, paying attention to misleading inspired utterances and teachings of demons.” (1 Tim. 4:1) All in the congregation, including those in positions of responsibility, need to be like Timothy in displaying strong, unwavering faith. By taking a strong stand and decisive action against apostasy, we can make our advancement manifest and be an example in faith.

SCRIPTURE OF THE DAY [Tuesday]

They were . . . speaking the word of God with boldness.—Acts 4:31.

Our God-given work of Kingdom proclamation is a privilege beyond compare. However, it is not without challenges. While some people readily accept the good news of God’s Kingdom, many prove to be like those living in the days of Noah. They “took no note until the flood came and swept them all away,” said Jesus. (Matt. 24:38, 39) Then there are those who ridicule or oppose us. (2 Pet. 3:3) Opposition may come from those in authority, from schoolmates or workmates, or even from close family members. Add to this our own personal weaknesses, such as shyness and fear of being rejected. A multitude of factors can make it difficult for us to exercise “freeness of speech” and speak the word of God with “boldness.” (Eph. 6:19, 20) Boldness, however, does not mean bluntness or rudeness. (Col. 4:6) While being bold, we also want to be peaceable with all.—Rom. 12:18.

Re: Scripture of the Day

SCRIPTURE OF THE DAY [Thursday]

By their fruits you will recognize them. Never do people gather grapes from thorns or figs from thistles, do they?  Matthew 7:16  [New World Translation Revised: NWTr]

There is no need to be an expert on religion to tell the truth from the false.  Just look at what some of their furits, or identifying features, are.   True religion has some salient identifying features.   They are:

* True religion promotes unselfish love per John 13:35, “By this all will know that you are my disciples—if you have love among yourselves.”  [NWTr]   It teaches people to respect all ethnic groups, true multicultural, to use their time and resources to help others, and to avoid sharing the wars of the nations, and their hates. (Micah 4:1-4).

* True religion is a way of life, not just ritual or formality.  Its members practice what they preach (Romans 2:21, 1 John 3:18).

* True religion teaches the truth from Almighty God’s (YHWH’s)  word, the Bible, (John 4:24, 17:17).  It is NOT based on human philosophies.

* True religion helps people get to know Almighty God (YHWH), including knowing his name, Jehovah (YHWH) (John 17:3 & 6).

* True religion focuses attention on Almighty God’s (YHWH’s) Kingdom, not man’s governments, as the only hope for mankind (Matthew 10:7, 24:14)
