Re: Scripture of the Day

SCRIPTURE OF THE DAY [Sunday]

And there was a man in Maon, whose possessions were in Carmel; and the man was very great, and he had three thousand sheep, and a thousand goats: and he was shearing his sheep in Carmel.  Now the name of the man was Nabal; and the name of his wife Abigail: and she was a woman of good understanding, and of a beautiful countenance: but the man was churlish and evil in his doings; and he was of the house of Caleb.  1 Samuel 25 – 3  [authorized King James Bible; AV]

Now, Abigail was a noteworthy woman who lived in the 11th century B.C.E. She had discernment, whereas her husband, Nabal, was harsh, worthless, and senseless. (1 Samuel. 25: 25).   David and his men protected Nabal’s possessions for a time, but when they asked for provisions, he “screamed insults at them” and gave them nothing.  This angered David so much that he planned to do away with Nabal and his men.   Hearing about this, Abigail took food and drink to David and his men, thereby preventing bloodshed. (1 Sam. 25:8-18).   David later said to her: “And David said to Abigail, Blessed be the LORD God of Israel, which sent thee this day to meet me:!” (1 Samuel. 25:32,  [AV]) After the death of Nabal, David married Abigail.—1 Sam. 25:37-42.

Re: Scripture of the Day

COMBINATION SCRIPTURE OF THE DAY AND RARE FRUIT TREES AND VEGETABLES - With Scripture of the Day first.

SCRIPTURE OF THE DAY [Tuesday]
The Lord giveth the word: The women that publish the tidings are a great host. Psalms 68:11 [American Standard Version: AVS]
Almighty God (YHWH) created the earth for a purpose. He “formed it to be inhabited.” (Isa. 45:18) His first human creation, Adam, was perfect, and God gave him a wonderful home—the garden of Eden. How Adam enjoyed its stately trees, its trickling streams, its frolicking animals! But he lacked something very important. Almighty God (YHWH) indicated what that was when he declared: “And Jehovah God said, It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him a help meet for him. And out of the ground Jehovah God formed every beast of the field, and every bird of the heavens; and brought them unto the man to see what he would call them: and whatsoever the man called every living creature, that was the name thereof. And the man gave names to all cattle, and to the birds of the heavens, and to every beast of the field; but for man there was not found a help meet for him. And Jehovah God caused a deep sleep to fall upon the man, and he slept; and he took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh instead thereof: and the rib, which Jehovah God had taken from the man, made he a woman, and brought her unto the man. And the man said, This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man..” (Gen. 2:18 - 23, [ASV])
God’s gift of a woman was unique in that she was to be the man’s perfect helper. She would also have the special privilege of bearing children. In fact, “And the man called his wife’s name Eve; because she was the mother of all living.” (Gen. 3:20; [ASV]) What an amazing gift God gave that first human couple! They had the ability to produce other perfect humans. By this means, the earth would eventually become a paradise populated by perfect people who would have other living things in subjection.—Gen. 1:27, 28.

SCRIPTURE OF THE DAY [wEDNESDAY]

These are murmurers, complainers, walking after their own lusts; and their mouth speaketh great swelling words, having men’s persons in admiration because of advantage.  Jude 16  [authorized King James Bible; AV]

Years later, the God-fearing wives of faithful patriarchs also had God’s backing.  That would not have been the case had they been complainers about their lot in life.   It is hard to imagine that serious cries of complaint would have come from the lips of Abraham’s respectful wife, Sarah, when they left the comforts of Ur and became temporary residents living in tents in another land. Instead, “Even as Sara obeyed Abraham, calling him lord: whose daughters ye are, as long as ye do well, and are not afraid with any amazement.” (1 Pet. 3:6,   [AV]).

SCRIPTURE OF THE DAY [Sunday]

And a certain woman, which had an issue of blood twelve years, And had suffered many things of many physicians, and had spent all that she had, and was nothing bettered, but rather grew worse,  When she had heard of Jesus, came in the press behind, and touched his garment.  For she said, If I may touch but his clothes, I shall be whole.  And straightway the fountain of her blood was dried up; and she felt in her body that she was healed of that plague.  And Jesus, immediately knowing in himself that virtue had gone out of him, turned him about in the press, and said, Who touched my clothes?  And his disciples said unto him, Thou seest the multitude thronging thee, and sayest thou, Who touched me?  And he looked round about to see her that had done this thing.  But the woman fearing and trembling, knowing what was done in her, came and fell down before him, and told him all the truth.  And he said unto her,  Jesus was very kind to women. For example, consider a woman who had a flow of blood for 12 years. From behind, she approached Jesus in a crowd and touched his garment. Instead of rebuking her, Jesus kindly said.” Mark 5:25 – 33 [authorized King James Bible; AV]

Go in peace, and be healed from your grievous sickness.” (Mark 5:34,  [AV]).  Specifically at this time, individuals in her predicament were considered unclean and not supposed to go near other people, but Jesus (Yeshua) Christ not only healed her but kindly addressed her as daughter.

Re: Scripture of the Day

SCRIPTURE OF THE DAY [Monday]

And he said unto them, It is not for you to know the times or the seasons, which the Father hath put in his own power.   But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.  Acts 1:7 – 8  [authorized King James Bible; AV]

Jesus (Yeshua) Christ was revealing the purpose for which he was born as clearly shown at John 18:33 – 37, “Then Pilate entered into the judgment hall again, and called Jesus, and said unto him, Art thou the King of the Jews?  Jesus answered him, Sayest thou this thing of thyself, or did others tell it thee of me?   Pilate answered, Am I a Jew? Thine own nation and the chief priests have delivered thee unto me: what hast thou done?   Jesus answered, My kingdom is not of this world: if my kingdom were of this world, then would my servants fight, that I should not be delivered to the Jews: but now is my kingdom not from hence.   Pilate therefore said unto him, Art thou a king then? Jesus answered, Thou sayest that I am a king. To this end was I born, and for this cause came I into the world, that I should bear witness unto the truth. Every one that is of the truth heareth my voice.”  [AV] .   Thus as shown by this scripture that when he was on trial for his life, Jesus (Yeshua) Christ said those words to the Roman governor of Judea.   Jesus had just identified himself as a king.   Years later, the apostle Paul referred to this courageous example of Jesus, “… before Christ Jesus, who before Pontius Pilate witnessed a good confession;.” (1 Tim. 6:13,  [AV]). Indeed, it sometimes requires great courage to be a “faithful and true witness” in Satan’s hate-filled world!—Rev. 3:14.

As a member of the Jewish nation, Jesus was a witness of Jehovah by birth. (Isa. 43:10)   Indeed, he turned out to be the greatest witness God has ever raised up in behalf of His name.  Jesus took seriously the meaning of his own God-given name. When an angel told Jesus’ adoptive father, Joseph, that what had been conceived in Mary was by holy spirit, the angel added: “And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins.” (Matt. 1 21 ,  [AV]).   Bible scholars in general agree that the name Jesus comes from a Hebrew name, Jeshua, and contains a shortened form of the divine name; it means “Jehovah  Is Salvation.” In harmony with the meaning of his name, Jesus helped “the lost sheep of the house of Israel” to repent of their sins in order for them to regain Jehovah’s approval. (Matt. 10:6; 15:24; Luke 19:10) To this end, Jesus zealously witnessed about God’s Kingdom. The Gospel writer Mark reported: “Now after that John was put in prison, Jesus came into Galilee, preaching the gospel of the kingdom of God,   And saying, The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: repent ye, and believe the gospel.’” (Mark 1:14, 15,  [AV]).   Jesus also courageously denounced the Jewish religious leaders, which contributed to their having him executed on a stake.—Mark 11:17, 18; 15:1-15.

Re: Scripture of the Day

SCRIPTURE OF THE DAY [Tuesday]

Nay, much more those members of the body, which seem to be more feeble, are necessary:  1 Corinthians 12:22  (Authorized King James Bible; AV)

Let’s face it, we all feel weak at times.   A bout of flu or allergies may weaken us to the point that we find it difficult to cope with our daily activities.   Now imagine that you have felt feeble, not just for one or two weeks, but for months on end. In such a situation, would you not appreciate it if others displayed an empathetic attitude toward you?
The apostle Paul knew what it was like to be affected, even weakened, by pressures from outside the congregation and from within it. More than once, he thought that he had reached his limit. (2 Cor. 1:8; 7:5) Reflecting on his life and the many hardships that he had experienced as a faithful Christian, Paul admitted: “Who is weak, and I am not weak? who is offended, and I burn not? (2 Cor. 11:29,  [AV]) And regarding the various members of the Christian congregation, likened to parts of the human body, Paul stated that those who “Nay, much more those members of the body, which seem to be more feeble, are necessary:” (1 Cor. 12:22,  [AV]) What did he mean? Why do we need to view those who seem to be weaker as Jehovah views them? And how will our doing so benefit us?
