Re: Scripture of the Day

SCRIPTURE OF THE DAY – [Sunday]

He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love. 1 John 4:8 [American Standard Version; ASV]

Genuine love for family and for neighbor is what distinguish genuine followers of Jesus (Yeshua) Christ from the multitude of believers in false religions. When love does not exist within the family circle, terrible atrocities occur. Here is an example of one case of tragedy occurring due to lack of love and caring within the family circle.
“Pakistan woman stoned to death by family for marrying man she loved By Mubasher Bukhari6 hours ago.

LAHORE Pakistan (Reuters) - A 25-year-old woman was stoned to death by her family outside one of Pakistan's top courts on Tuesday in a so-called "honor" killing for marrying the man she loved, police said.
Farzana Iqbal was waiting for the High Court in the eastern city of Lahore to open when a group of around dozen men began attacking her with bricks, said Umer Cheema, a senior police officer.

Her father, two brothers and former fiance were among the attackers, he said. Iqbal suffered severe head injuries and was pronounced dead in hospital, police said.

All the suspects except her father escaped. He admitted killing his daughter, Cheema said, and explained it was a matter of honor. Many Pakistani families think a woman marrying her own choice of man brings dishonor on the family.

Iqbal had been engaged to her cousin but married another man, Cheema said. Her family registered a kidnapping case against him but Iqbal had come to court to argue that she had married of her own free will, he said.

Around 1,000 Pakistani women are killed every year by their families in honor killings, according to Pakistani rights group the Aurat Foundation.
The true figure is probably many times higher since the Aurat Foundation only compiles figures from newspaper reports. The government does not compile national statistics.

Campaigners say few cases come to court, and those that do can take years to be heard. No one tracks how many cases are successfully prosecuted.
Even those that do result in a conviction may end with the killers walking free. Pakistani law allows a victim's family to forgive their killer.”

No love within the family circle here.

Re: Scripture of the Day

SCRIPTURE OF THE DAY – [Monday]

Be subject therefore unto God; but resist the devil, and he will flee from you.  8  Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye doubleminded.  James 4:7 – 8  [American Standard Version; ASV]

Wicked spirits are dangerous, but we need not live in fear of them if we oppose the Devil and draw close to God by doing His will.  The power of wicked spirits is limited.  They were punished in Noah’s day, and they face their final judgment in the future. (Jude 6) Remember, too, that we have the protection of Almighty God’s (YHWH’s)  powerful angels. (2 Kings 6:15-17) Those angels are deeply interested in seeing us succeed in resisting wicked spirits. The righteous angels are cheering us on, so to speak. Let us therefore stay close to Jehovah and his family of faithful spirit creatures. May we also avoid every kind of spiritism and always apply the counsel of God’s Word. (1 Peter 5:6, 7; 2 Peter 2:9) Then we can be sure of victory in our fight against wicked spirit creatures.

SCRIPTURE OF THE DAY – [Tuesday]

And as the people were in expectation, and all men reasoned in their hearts concerning John, whether haply he were the Christ;  Luke 3:15  [American Standard Version; ASV]

Now, why might the Jews have expected the Messiah to appear at this time?  There were a number of reasons.   One was, after Jesus was born, Almighty God’s (YHWH’s) angel appeared to shepherds who were tending their flocks in the fields near Bethlehem as recorded at Luke 2:8-11, “And there were shepherds in the same country abiding in the field, and keeping watch by night over their flock.  9  And an angel of the Lord stood by them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid.  10  And the angel said unto them, Be not afraid; for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy which shall be to all the people:  11  for there is born to you this day in the city of David a Saviour, who is Christ the Lord.”  [ASV]

Re: Scripture of the Day

SCRIPTURE OF THE DAY – [Wednesday]

But Jehovah said to him: “Peace be with you. Have no fear; you will not die.” 24 So Gide·on built an altar there to Jehovah, and it is called Je·hovah-shalom down to this day. It is still in Oph?rah of the Abi-ezrites.  Judges 6:23 – 24, [New World Translation Revised: NWTr]

Almighty God (YHWH) backed up Judge Gideon during a very troublesome time in ancient Israel after they had entered the promise land [now the land of Palestine].  An angel visited him at this time when the neighboring Midianites were a real threat to Israel. For that reason, Gideon was threshing wheat, not in the open field, but in a winepress, where he could quickly hide the valuable grain. Surprised that the angel appeared and addressed him as a “mighty warrior,” Gideon questioned whether Jehovah, who had delivered the Israelites out of Egypt, was really going to help them now. Speaking on behalf of the Creator, the angel reassured Gideon that Jehovah truly was backing him.

Gideon wondered how it would be possible for him to “save Israel out of Midian’s hand.” The answer he received was direct: “Because I will be with you,” said Jehovah, “you will strike down Midian as if they were one man.”   No doubt still wondering just how this would work out, Gideon sought a sign. Notice that in this conversation there is no question but that Gideon viewed Jehovah as a real Person.

What happened next strengthened Gideon’s faith and brought him closer to God. Gideon prepared a meal and served it to the angel. When the food was miraculously consumed by fire at the touch of the angel’s staff, Gideon realized that the angel was indeed Almighty God’s (YHWH’s)  representative. Alarmed, Gideon exclaimed: “Alas, Sovereign Lord Jehovah, for I have seen Jehovah’s angel face-to-face!” (Judg. 6:17-22) [NWTr]  But did that encounter  erect a barrier between Gideon and his Almighty God (YHWH) ?  Certainly not!  The opposite occurred. Gideon came to know Almighty God (YHWH)  in such a way that he felt at peace with God. We know this from the name given to the altar that Gideon erected at that place—“Jehovah-shalom.” That name means “Jehovah Is Peace.”

Re: Scripture of the Day

SCRIPTURE OF THE DAY – [Thursday]

But you, O Israel, are my servant, You, O Jacob, whom I have chosen, The offspring of Abraham my friend,  Isaiah 41:8  [New World Translation Revised: NWTr]

Almighty God (YHWH)  referred to the patriarch and ancestor of the  Israelites as “Abraham my friend.”   “O our God, did you not drive away the inhabitants of this land from before your people Israel and then give it as a lasting possession to the offspring of your friend Abraham?” O our God, did you not drive away the inhabitants of this land from before your people Israel and then give it as a lasting possession to the offspring of your friend Abraham?  (2 Chronicles 20:7) [NWTr] also calls Abraham a friend of God. What was the basis for that faithful man’s enduring friendship with his Creator? It was Abraham’s faith.  This was highlighted at James 2:21 – 23, “Was not Abraham our father declared righteous by works after he offered up Isaac his son on the altar? 22 You see that his faith was active along with his works and his faith was perfected by his works, 23 and the scripture was fulfilled that says: “Abraham put faith in Jehovah, and it was counted to him as righteousness,” and he came to be called Jehovah’s friend.” [NWTr]

Abraham’s descendants who became the nation of ancient Israel originally had Jehovah as their Father and Friend. Sadly, however, they lost their friendship with God.  Why?  Because they failed to keep exercising faith in Jehovah’s promises.

Re: Scripture of the Day

SCRIPTURE OF THE DAY – [Friday]

And Mary said unto the angel, How shall this be, seeing I know not a man?  Luke 1:34 [American Standard Version; ASV]

Mary, the mother of Jesus (Yeshua) was puzzled when an angel told her at Luke 1:28 to 33, “And he came in unto her, and said, Hail, thou that art highly favored, the Lord is with thee.  29  But she was greatly troubled at the saying, and cast in her mind what manner of salutation this might be.  30  And the angel said unto her, Fear not, Mary: for thou hast found favor with God.  31  And behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a son, and shalt call his name JESUS.  32  He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the Most High: and the Lord God shall give unto him the throne of his father David:  33  and he shall reign over the house of Jacob for ever; and of his kingdom there shall be no end.” [ASV] as she was NOT having sexual relations with any man.   The use of the work ‘know’ here is the ancient way of speaking about sexual relations.   However, the angel went on to say, “And the angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Spirit shall come upon thee, and the power of the Most High shall overshadow thee: wherefore also the holy thing which is begotten shall be called the Son of God.  36  And behold, Elisabeth thy kinswoman, she also hath conceived a son in her old age; and this is the sixth month with her that was called barren.  37  For no word from God shall be void of power.  38  And Mary said, Behold, the handmaid of the Lord; be it unto me according to thy word. And the angel departed from her.’ (Luke 1:35 to 38, [ASV] ).   In fact, Joseph to whom she was betrothed at the time thought about breaking his betrothal when he found that she was pregnant, for details see Matthew 1:19 to 25.

The above clearly shows that at the time of Jesus’ birth, Mary was a virgin, but she did not remain a virgin after his birth as Jesus’ had brothers and sisters (i.e., half brothers and sisters as his Father was Almighty God, and their father was Joseph.)   This is shown at Matthew 13:55 to 57, “Is not this the carpenter’s son? is not his mother called Mary? and his brethren, James, and Joseph, and Simon, and Judas?  56  And his sisters, are they not all with us? Whence then hath this man all these things?  57  And they were offended in him. But Jesus said unto them, A prophet is not without honor, save in his own country, and in his own house.” [ASV].

Re: Scripture of the Day

SCRIPTURE OF THE DAY – [Saturday]

Now faith is assurance of things hoped for, a conviction of things not seen.  Hebrews 11:1 [American Standard Version; ASV]

To win Almighty God’s (YHWH’s) approval we must have faith and must do as he directs.   This reality is made clear throughout the scriptures.   When the nation of ancient Israel exercised faith in him, he gave them protection against their enemies, but when they lacked faith and obedience, he gave them up to their enemies.

Noah proved faithful and followed Almighty God’s (YHWH’s) directions as testified to at Hebrews 11:7 [ASV], “By faith Noah, being warned of God concerning things not seen as yet, moved with godly fear, prepared an ark to the saving of his house; through which he condemned the world, and became heir of the righteousness which is according to faith.”   Also, Abraham exercised faith at testified to at Hebrews 11:8 [ASV], “By faith Abraham, when he was called, obeyed to go out unto a place which he was to receive for an inheritance; and he went out, not knowing whither he went.”   We today must exercise faith and follow His guidance as found in his inspired word, the Bible.

Re: Scripture of the Day

SCRIPTURE OF THE DAY – [Sunday]

He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love.  1 John 4:8  [American Standard Version; ASV]

The true God, Almighty God (YHWH), chief attribute is love as shown by 1 John 4:8, and by his Son, Jesus (Yeshua) Christ.   To Emphasis this fact the Scriptures speak also of love guided by principle, as love of righteousness or even love for one’s enemies, for whom a person may not have affection. This facet or expression of love is an unselfish devotion to righteousness and a sincere concern for the lasting welfare of others, along with an active expression of this for their good.

Only the real God, Almighty God (YHWH), has this as his chief attribute, the many false gods and their so called holy books fail to deal with love.  For example, the Quran no where mentions the importance of love, and the believers in this book definitely do not show it.  In fact, members of Islam who believe in this book instead of showing love, yell Allahu Akbar (god is great) when committing wicked un-loving acts.

In fact, all false religions do not believe in the guiding principle of love clearly differentiating themselves as being members of a false and un-righteous religion.

Re: Scripture of the Day

SCRIPTURE OF THE DAY – [Monday]

but unto them that are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God, and the wisdom of God.  1 Corinthians 1:24  [American Standard Version; ASV]

The disciples were terrified. They were sailing across the Sea of Galilee when a storm suddenly descended upon them. No doubt they had seen storms on this lake before—after all, some of the men were experienced fishermen. * (Matthew 4:18, 19) But this was “a great violent windstorm,” and it quickly churned the sea into a wet fury. The men worked frantically to steer the vessel, but the 1storm was overpowering. Surging waves were “dashing into the boat,” which began filling with water. Despite the commotion, Jesus was fast asleep in the stern, exhausted after a day of teaching the crowds. Fearing for their lives, the disciples woke him up, pleading: “Lord, save us, we are about to perish!”—Mark 4:35-38; Matthew 8:23-25.

Jesus was not afraid. With complete confidence, he rebuked the wind and the sea: “Hush! Be quiet!” Immediately, the wind and the sea obeyed—the tempest ceased, the waves disappeared into stillness, and “a great calm set in.” An unusual fear now gripped the disciples. “Who really is this?” they murmured to one another. Indeed, what kind of man could rebuke the wind and the sea as if correcting an unruly child?—Mark 4:39-41; Matthew 8:26, 27.

But Jesus was no ordinary man. Almighty God’s (YHWH’s)  power was  displayed toward him and through him in extraordinary ways.

Re: Scripture of the Day

SCRIPTURE OF THE DAY – [Tuesday]

He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation.  Colossians 1:15  [New World Translation Revised: NWTr]

Consider the power that Jesus had during his prehuman existence.   Almighty God (YHWH), his Father, exercised his own “eternal power” when he created his only-begotten Son, who came to be known as Jesus (Yeshua) Christ. (Romans 1:20) Thereafter, Jehovah delegated tremendous power and authority to this Son, assigning him to carry out His creative purposes. Concerning the Son, the Bible says: “All things came into existence through him, and apart from him not even one thing came into existence.”—John 1:3.

We can but barely perceive the magnitude of that assignment. Imagine the power needed to bring into existence millions of mighty angels, the physical universe with its billions of galaxies, and the earth with its abundant variety of life. To accomplish those tasks, the only-begotten Son had at his disposal the most powerful force in the universe—God’s holy spirit. This Son found great pleasure in being the Master Worker, whom Almighty God (YHWH) used in creating all other things.—Proverbs 8:22-31.
